i’m gearing up for some major muppet watching, between marathons with friends and AFI screenings in los angeles. to celebrate, here’s an odd mashup of “experimental film” by they might be giants and footage from a muppet documentary. there’s a great scene at :39 showing some magical muppet awesomeness.

the story is very strange and rambling, but the puppeteering and voice of youtube’s skippy are more muppetational than a lot of the official stuff coming out of the muppet camp these days. die frogs!

at this moment, i am truly happy. as a huge fan of the muppets, i’m excited to have discovered this rare muppet saturday morning series called little muppet monsters. pulled after only three episodes by jim henson, it’s a sketch show that features grown up kermit, fozzie and the whole gang. it was packaged along with muppet babies, but the two didn’t work well together aesthetically.
though the concept is under-developed, the weird gonzo show and piggy screaming through an animated “pigs in space” are completely worth watching.

in this very meta episode of muppet babies, the gang creates their own cartoons. i swear to god, the irony is going to make my head explode!
i love how even fozzie’s flip=book audience somehow manages to throw tomatoes at him. he can never win.
