heath’s career-defining performance
written by eric on 08/25/08 1 comment

“heath is the best actor of the summer!”
“heath is phenomenal!”
“heath deserves an oscar!”

the reviews are in: heathcliff the cat delivers the performance of a lifetime! this sassy, orange tabby has to be proud. he is the most talked about actor in the biggest movie of the summer.

you see, heathcliff has spent many a dark night with the catillac cats rummaging through mr. nutmeg’s trash-can … looking for fishbones!

ironywatch: heroclix
written by geoffrey on 08/14/08 leave a comment

i’m always on the look out for new things to appreciate ironically. this is ironywatch.

after i got through spending all my money on overpower cards, i was left with a giant box of worthless pictures of all my “favorite” superheroes.  unlike comic books, trading cards usually offer little literary value, so if that cardboard pic of psylocke doesn’t somehow increase in value, and you no longer play the game, congratulations: you’ve just added to a landfill! or most likely, your mom will add to that landfill when you go to college.

now get all the fun of a trading card game you’ll get bored of in a year, the expense of a coke habit, and the unstorableness of hundreds of little, unbendable figurines.  it’s heroclix!  yay!  here’s how you play:

1. spend all your money.

2. try to decipher the complex rule system.

3. play the game for a year and then give them all to your friend who still plays, but who will eventually throw them out.

–or–

3. throw them out immediately after you buy them.

all your favorite marvel, dc and horror movie characters are ready for you to not enjoy in a whole new way. heroclix, you’ve been ironywatched.

garfield’s “halloween” musical numbers are a lucid nightmare
written by eric on 08/11/08 leave a comment

i am so confused!

when garfield the cat regales us with his costume conundrum, the colorful possibilities are supplied by none other than voice over veteran lorenzo music.

and yet when its time for him to walk the streets at night (and enjoy massive amounts of candy), the singing voice is none other than recognizable r&b sensation lou rawls.

is this also supposed to be the voice of garfield? what is going on?

a clip of asterios performing stand-up at an LA comic book store made its way to npr’s marketplace.  way to go, asterios!  and way to go batman, for hopefully getting a sense of humor.
