in this new column, appearing exclusively here at overtimecomedy.com (as nobody else will take my writing), i will outline the things that bill o’reilly and i have in common. the above video illustrates the first thing we share: we both hate how hard battletoads is!

twice upon a time: george lucas’ lost animated masterpiece is now online
| written by asterios on 06/18/08 | 2 comments |
i first caught this movie when cartoon network played it back in the 90s, and it always stuck with me. imagine a terry gilliam style cartoon with the sentimentality of george lucas and the brilliant voice work of lorenzo music (a.k.a. garfield/peter venkman from the ghostbusters cartoon) and you’ll get this amazing feature.
made entirely with cutout animation and punched up by a team of improv comics, it’s still pretty hard to find for a movie backed by the world’s most profitable filmmaker; a VHS/laserdisc release was mounted in 1991, but since, warner home video has done almost nothing with it. WB made it available on amazon.com’s “unboxed” streaming video service for a little bit, but i checked today and it’s down.
thankfully, someone put the whole thing on the internet. above’s part one of the 75 minute cult classic.

street fighter: the movie: the game: no, really
| written by asterios on 06/10/08 | leave a comment |
raul julia’s last film is also his first video game!
this game would be way more fun as an rpg. you’d play chun-li, reporter for the global news network (or whatever they called it). can you make your deadline while fending off sexual harassment from every male member of your staff? no, you can’t!
so in closing, yes, this game does exist. coming up next: you don’t mess with the zohan: the game: the movie: the cookbook! real recipies based on the movie adaptation of the hit game of the hit movie! try my favorite, you don’t mess with the applesauce!
(please don’t try you don’t mess with the applesauce.)

the music video to “holiday road” is actually pretty terrible
| written by asterios on 01/14/08 | 4 comments |
boring. artsy. gay. call it what you will, but watching the music video to lindsay buckingham’s “holiday road” is like a call girl punching you in the face: you thought you’d like it, but two seconds in you’re like, “oh wow, this sounded a lot more fun in my head.”
this should have been the easiest possible video to make. clips of “national lampoon’s vacation” mixed with lindsay buckingham singing in a station wagon, or playing guitar on a roller-coaster, or laying on a beach but he keeps getting bothered by crabs or something. instead, someone took that old apple computers/1984 commercial and said, “how can I make this so much worse?”
the best/worst part of the video, however: lindsay pours himself a cup of water from a water cooler, then dumps it on the floor in defiance. the falling water becomes a river. i have no idea what this symbolizes.
in conclusion, watch this video 800 times.

help beowulf by not seeing “beowulf”
| written by asterios on 11/16/07 | leave a comment |
here’s what beowulf would be like with legos.
well, we all knew this would happen. we’ve been faced with a choice: go see beowulf this weekend, or instead, give that 10 dollars to help over half a million people displaced by cyclone sidr.
on one hand, beowulf is a pretty great movie. i saw it, and have to say, the acting was impeccable, particularly anthony hopkins. on the other hand, earlier today, an entire island in the barisal district was submerged under six feet of water, causing homes to be literally swept away and destroyed…
