garfield’s “halloween” musical numbers are a lucid nightmare written by eric on 08/11/08
i am so confused!
when garfield the cat regales us with his costume conundrum, the colorful possibilities are supplied by none other than voice over veteran lorenzo music.
and yet when its time for him to walk the streets at night (and enjoy massive amounts of candy), the singing voice is none other than recognizable r&b sensation lou rawls.
is this also supposed to be the voice of garfield? what is going on?
are we to infer that at some point, we are no longer witnessing an accurate recount of the night’s adventures?
has garfield lapsed into a walking dream state, where all his ideal visions of himself are projected outwardly?
does he wish to sound just like the troubadour who gave us such hits as “love is a hurtin’ thing” and “you’ll never find another love like mine”?
… and if he has this ideal dream fantasy world, filled with candy and soul music, why is it also filled with living visions of terror? has garfield lost control of what is real and what is fantasy? must he torture himself with creatures of the night - who seek to drive him closer to the brink of the madness with each step he takes on the lonely, cold october night?
jim davis has not thought this out well enough.
