ironywatch: “trendy tees” from wal-greens written by geoffrey on 07/10/08
i’m always on the look out for new things to appreciate ironically. this is ironywatch.
back in the day, hipsters looked for funny and amusing t-shirts in thrift stores. a shirt that said, “alamo construction company” or “benjamin rigman’s bar mitzvah ‘94″ would be funny if worn by someone with no connection to said company or event. life was good.
however, like every cool “indie” thing to do, it eventually needed to crossover into the mainstream. clothing outlets like hot topic and even abercrombie and fitch decided to make new novelty shirts with funny graphics on them, which kids were all about. sometimes they were even racist!
now, trendy t-shirts are everywhere. it’s such big business that you can even buy them at your local wal-greens for $5 a pop. here are some examples:
i’d argue that these drug store shirts are way cooler than any shirt you can buy anywhere else ever. but don’t take my word for it…
…cause this guy knows how it works! wal-greens hipster tees, you’ve been ironywatched!

You can find some awesome shirts at thrift stores… I got a rather radical shirt with the cast of Fat Albert. Can’t find that at Wal-greens (Yet.)

good find!
if people start wearing fat albert shirts, wal-greens will release “al and the fat gang” shirts. actually, i really want an “al and the fat gang” shirt. a lot.
