ironywatch: sega superstars tennis
written by geoffrey on 06/12/08

i’m always on the look out for new things to appreciate ironically. this is ironywatch.

while your favorite nintendo characters beat the shit out of each other in an epic battle of intergalactic proportions, your favorite sega characters, many of whom you don’t know the name of, play a game of tennis together.  awesome.

being a sega fan has to be incredibly difficult these day, what with sega making progressively worse sonic games every year and little else. however, nothing is more amazing than taking 20 years of original characters and having them dick around on a tennis court.  saying you like this more than smash bros. gives you a hundred gold rings worth of irony cred.

game. set. ironywatched.

If Sparkster from Rocket Knight Adventures was in the game, I would buy it based on that alone.

While on the subject of sports and irony: Looney Tunes B-Ball.

And the selection of characters is just mindboggling.
Shadow the Hedgehog over anyone from Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Ecco the Dolphin or Phantasy Star?

Why didn’t Sega just toss in the corpse of John Belushi as a playable character if they were going so completely random with character choices?

hahaha - yup. ecco could have been on a jet pack or something. show some creativity, sega!

Don’t forget that some people just have a strange obsession with that unoriginal waste-of-a-character ripoff totally-stole-Knuckles-place screamo-emo Shadow. Although, you have to give them some credit, they put freaking Alex Kidd in the game. Luckily for them, me, and <i?at least 7 other guys have a Master System and know who Alex Kidd is.

Well, it looks like Sega’s recent (when I say recent I mean at least since the Dreamcast crashed) trend of making the crappiest games they possibly can using characters that no one knows is still continuing.
