nintendo revisited: super mario brothers written by daroff on 05/13/08
the designer of this game was brilliant, and this new yorky guy playing is hilarious
this is it, folks. this will be my last nintendo revisited. i’ve said it many times, but growing up, i didn’t have many nintendo games. freshman year of college, i played a bit on my roommate’s emulator (thank you, lenny). junior and senior year, i played on my friend dana’s nintendo. she had a couple good games, but i was too busy to get into any of them. life has a way of cutting into your nintendo time. if you want to ship me your favorite nintendo games to play and write about, i will never say no to free things. i also accept gifts of cash.
i spend a lot of time talking about, writing about, reading about, watching videos about super mario brothers , but there really is nothing like going back and playing it. it’s not as complicated as its successors, but none of those games live up to the elegance of the original. i actually beat it on the first try. i haven’t beaten this game in 10 years, and it feels really freakin good.

Yes, Super Mario Bros. is the very best of importance and awesome game play among pretty much any other game (Strangely, the other most important and excellent game is Mario too: Mario 64). People who have not played Super Mario Bros. are probably the people who think Madden ‘08 is the best game ever. If it weren’t for the good ol’ bros., we would most likely have no games at all. And for being so important, it pulled it off being damn fun to play as well.
Also, no more Nintendo Revisited? You guys should think of another semi-regular topic cause there is a tab up there devoted to Nintendo Revisited. Perhaps it could be something else…. *Cough* Iornywatch *Cough*

mario sent a shockwave through the kids world. it wasn’t just a toy we had to have — playing through mario bros. was a talked about event. “did you beat bowser?” “did you get to 8 without warping?” it made video games water cooler talk for kids.
