saturday morning cartoon - hulk hogan’s rock ‘n’ wrestling
| written by geoffrey on 05/31/08 | 2 comments |
there’s not much positive buzz surrounding the new incredible hulk movie, but you’ve got to give it up for the hulkster, who along with rowdy roddy piper and andre the giant, star in this 80’s saturday morning cartoon. or rather, their likenesses star in it, and their voices are performed by actors.
oh come on, iron shiek. get off your ass and into the recording studio for a day.

gonna have some fun, show you how it’s done - TGIF!
supposedly the last idea jim henson had before he died was “a sitcom about dinosaurs.” you owe him your undying affection to this show. enjoy the surprisingly moody pilot to dinosaurs!

ironywatch - the love guru
| written by geoffrey on 05/29/08 | 2 comments |
i’m always on the look out for new things to appreciate ironically. this is ironywatch.
in his first original character since austin powers, mike myers decided to rip as much off from austin powers as he could, including the 60’s-esque setting, a character that’s all about sex, and vernon “remember mini-me?” troyer. his blatent attempt to re-cash in on his late 90’s work feels incredibly late 90’s, which is why i can’t wait to see this movie!!
are you ready for the comedy smash of the summer? yeah, baby! forget every other movie that’s coming out, sit at your computer and watch the love guru trailer over and over again until a week before it opens in theaters. then get in line, cause tickets are gonna be hard to come by. that’s what i’m gonna do: camp out in front of the theater for front row seats to the love guru.
i predict $2 billion domestic on opening weekend. love guru, you’ve been ironywatched.

saddest garfield cartoon ever
| written by geoffrey on 05/28/08 | 2 comments |
this short, called “diana’s piano,” was part of garfield: his 9 lives, which was a cartoon adaptation of the book by the same title. the book is better: some of the scariest and strangest stuff was neutered for television. however, this short made for the cartoon version never fails to make me sad.
it’s a bit wasp-y and cloy, but also very effective. garfield was a lot sweeter in his past lives, lol.

strange internet: skippy the sort-of-muppet
| written by geoffrey on 05/28/08 | leave a comment |
the story is very strange and rambling, but the puppeteering and voice of youtube’s skippy are more muppetational than a lot of the official stuff coming out of the muppet camp these days. die frogs!
