on my freshman year college roommate’s emulator, i played every single mega man, so i can say without a doubt that mega man 2 is by far and away the best mega man of the bunch. mega man x was sort of close, but by a huge margin. everything about this game rocked: sweet level design, rockin bosses, and the best 8-bit music score ever. i admit to having never actually beat it on my own, but that doesn’t make me enjoy it any less. i fucking love this game.
also, like i said before, i can play bubble man’s theme on guitar, and that makes me happy.

Ive always wondered why everyone consideres Mega Man 2 the best. All the Mega Mans are virtually identical. I prefer the first one as it has the orignal (and best) robot masters, t is the first and the series, and I dont care what anyone says, its the most challangeing (Elecman and that Yellow Slime Horror come to mind.) While ive had the NES cartridges forever, I never bothered to beat them. A few years ago my brother brought home the Mega Man Annivery Collection and I finnaly beat all 6 orignal Mega Mans.

mega man 1 gets props for inventing the series, but mega man 2 is just a better game. the game play is smoother, the bosses are better, the levels are better, the music is better (bubble man music kicks cutman’s music any day of the week).
with the sequel, they took everything that was annoying with the original, which was a hell of a lot, and threw it out, resulting in the game that became the gold standard for mega men to come.

No one is argueing that Mega Man 2 isnt great. I just think that some Mega Man are more equal then others. Mega Man 4 Good. Mega Man 2 Better. I mean 2 good… 1 better… oh whatever.

Someone described Mega Man 2 as a labor of love, and I think that’s true. From what I’ve heard, the first Mega Man game didn’t sell very well, so the second game was just barely put into production…with the second game, they proved that they could up the level of quality and innovation. That’s a feat they only managed to repeat once more when Mega Man X came out.
