the horrible gene wilder sitcom with alice cooper
written by geoffrey on 04/02/08

if you want evidence that the classic sitcom peaked in the early 90’s, here’s your smoking gun. something wilder, a short-lived sitcom starring the brilliant gene wilder from 94-95, showcases all the worn-down comedy cliches which dragged the form into the depths of awful-tude for the next decade. watching gene wilder (and inexplicably, guest star alice cooper) struggle inside the sitcom format is like watching a best friend fail to commit suicide.

enjoy parts 2 & 3 after the jump!

“where is the owner of the HOUSE? the MOUSE? no, the HOUSE!” *shudder*

something wilder - “hangin’ with mr. cooper” (yes, that’s the title of the episode) - part 2

something wilder - “hangin’ with mr. cooper” - part 3

Wow. I had no idea that existed, and I wouldn’t have believed it if you hadn’t shown that video.

i just want to clarify that not all gene wilder sitcoms are bad. i remember loving “camp wilder.” i don’t remember why, but i remember after some major accident, the mother declaring “camp wilder is closed.” and it stuck with me.

I remember that show and you are right, it was awful overall. That is a shame because Gene Wilder is a great actor. Actually the only time I did enjoy the show was the episode with Alice Cooper, but the only reason I probably liked is the fact I am a huge Alice Cooper fan. That guy is awesome.
