here’s a good interview with ren and stimpy creator john k. in the interview, he talks about how much he hated working on 80’s cartoons. he wondered how he was gonna sell his weird cartoon idea in a field of toy-driven shows. of course, nickelodeon later shook up the tv cartoon industry with “creator driven cartoons,” which john mocks nick for claiming they “invented.”
what was one of those dreaded 80’s shows he worked on? see the intro after the jump.
galaxy high, 1986-87. according to wikipedia, he was a character designer for the show. i’ll post a full episode this saturday.

Its odd. In my childhood I did 3 things. 1. Play Videogames 2. Get stuck in daycare (Which often led back to #1) and 3. Watch cartoons. Ive seen almost every cartoon on from 1992 onward or so yet I never watched much Ren & Stimpy. I wonder why… Of course, like all healthy mided people, I know the log song.

andyoyo - i’m happy to say ren and stimpy never gave me nightmares. doug, on the other hand - don’t get me started.
alex - yeah, i’ve read his blog and other writings. “he is a wild and angry guy!” i guess that’s how geniuses are supposed to act, lol.
hexen - it’s weird. everyone i know loves cartoons, yet only my artist friends are into r&s. maybe it was an early gen x thing? right before they had grunge, it was ren and stimpy?
