gidget is on dvd?!?!?!? written by daroff on 02/29/08
look! chekov from star trek, on gidget!
somewhere between the flying nun and mrs. doubtfire, sally field was gidget. i don’t remember what gidget did, but she was in a bathing suit doing it. i remember watching this as a kid for some reason, and there was absolutely nothing special about it. it was baywatch, but with sally field. are there really so many people with a hankering for more gidget that there’s actually demand to start re-releasing the show on dvd? if i can find even one person interested in this, i’ll recant, but for now, i can only wonder why gidget gets a dvd release while great shows still sit in the vault. the world will never make sense again.

Start recanting — as someone who digs 60’s pop culture, I am a Gidget appreciator!
They used to show it on TV Land but they stopped that a couple of years ago, hence the demand to release it on DVD. Plus, there was only one season so there wasn’t much to put out.
And I hope you’re aware of the fact that Gidget was a real person (oddly enough the mom of one of my professors), then a book, then 3 movies (the first starring Sandra Dee) and then this tv show. If you want to get mad at anyone, get mad at Frederick Kohner for starting the franchise.

when you own the complete series collection, then i will recant. you can like gidget all you want, but are you so into it that you just have to own it? that’s the issue at hand here, and trust me, it’s an important one.

Being someone who’s not really big on TV on DVD, I didn’t even know it was on DVD until I read this, but now I will seriously consider buying it. I think you’ve actually made me want it more because now I keep thinking of my favorite episode (where Gidget gets a job at a florist shoppe that requires her to be able to drive, which she does anyway despite the fact that she’s 15 and doesn’t know how). And then there’s all the other ridiculous aspects of the show that make it so exaggerated but wonderful. Oh and the title sequence is one of my favorites in all of TV. It’s so not Baywatch with Sally Field… you just need to really watch the show again; it’s totally memorable once you’re older.

Oh, I just realized your fist sentence is wrong. Gidget was Sally Field’s first gig; The Flying Nun came after Gidget was cancelled. And she was in a bathing suit less often than not. Sorry to burst your bubble, dude. Stick to the 80’s and 90’s.

And I meant “first” sentence. I can only type well on Tuesdays.
