what happened to moxy fruvous? written by geoffrey on 02/25/08
like any dork growing up in or around canada, i was into the band moxy fruvous. i went to see them in concert, bought their cds and wore an fruvous t-shirt, which i still have today. then they disappeared. what happened?
the group that brought us many funny, folkish hits like “king of spain” and “my baby loves a bunch of authors” disbanded in 2002. some of them joined the newfoundland folk rock band great big sea, one of them works for canadian radio, and one of them goes to high schools and sings songs about canada. they sure were canadian, eh?
the ironic thing is that one of their best songs was called “stuck in the 90’s.” i guess that’s where their music legacy now firmly belongs. the other ironic thing is that their anti-conservative message would have been even more relevant in the years after they broke up. still, i’ll argue that while bargainville may feel a bit dusty, you will go to the moon is a great album which holds up really well today.
