mary poppins redux written by jenni on 12/03/07
i’m a bit obsessed with the internet phenomenon where movie trailers are re-edited to make them look like a completely different genre of film. it seemed to start shortly after the release of the brokeback mountain trailer and consisted of mainly trying to make two characters look gay. but it has grow to so much more of a subtle art. and i have to say, i think i’ve just found my very favorite use of the devise. and so i present to you… scary mary.

this phenomenon actually has been around for years. the new york editor’s guild does a yearly contest for assistant editors. they give them four movies to choose from.
because all the footage is owned by the studios, the assistants aren’t supposed to release their re-cut trailers to the public. then youtube came along and everyone said fuck that.
