guess what? there is a good goo goo dolls song

wait, this is the iris band?

the goo goo dolls, the band that brought us the song that wouldn’t go away, iris, has made a career out of putting out soft, inoffensive rock songs. they’re known mainly for acoustic guitars and lyrics including the names of non-existent women. that’s right, iris isn’t even a real person, neither is mae from their song slide. the goo goo dolls acted like dirty, alternative rock stars, but their music was slathered in vagina.

surprisingly, though, hidden among the pussy music is a single, solitary song with some real balls. “long way down” has some real power to it. there’s no doubt it’s a spineless goo goo dolls song, but it sits just this side of a real, driving rock song. i’m serious, listen to it. the song doesn’t totally suck. i guarantee amazement.

the goo goo dolls are from my hometown of buffalo, ny. if you know buffalo, you know that “broadway” is a song that perfectly captures the sadness of broadway st., where all the bars are. i happily keep it in my itunes.

however, i agree - the goo goo dolls suck. especially iris.

Your wrong on olny ONE song from them being good. Give ” Flat Top” a listen. might be suprised. a very anit-government kind of song with a decent guitar solo. anways…

i’ve heard flat top, definitely the second best goo goo dolls song. still, it lies down there with all the rest of their crap.

and sorry, just the thought of the goo goo dolls making some sort of political statement makes just a little bile back up into my throat.

wow mom, quite a 180 since childhood. weren’t you always the one telling me not to swear? it’s this kind of inconsistent parenting that i blame for permanently fucking me up. thanks.

i didn’t even know you liked the goo goo dolls. had i known you wanted to get into 90’s bands, i’d have recommended some good ones.
