“hammerman”: less convoluted than it appears
written by geoffrey on 10/04/07

it’s difficult to figure out the plot of hammerman, the mc hammer superhero cartoon, as it’s described in the show’s opening rap. the lyrics come in a weird order, which can be confusing. so i listened closely and re-wrote the story here in prose for your convenience:

a long time ago, there was a motown singer who had a pair of magical shoes, which he used to fight crime. the years passed, and the motown singer got too old to fight, so “gramps” (the singer) and his granddaughter searched around for someone to give the magic shoes to. eventually, they found a hip-hop dancer named stanley, who was an all-around good guy — likes kids and has a lot of heart. so gramps decided to put the shoes on the ground, and sure enough, they magically went over to stanley, who from then on was hammerman.

it took me four listens, but i figured it out eventually.
