“would?” is the best song you never gave a chance written by daroff on 10/03/07
this song is the best part about cameron crowe’s “singles”
there are a few songs that i remember just adoring from the very first time i heard them. most have gotten old or stale. “would?” has grown with me. it’s just a simple, straight forward rock song that pulls no punches. it’s also a song that comes with a great story…
many attribute the rise of grunge music with the death of andy wood. at the time of his death, andy’s band mother love bone was poised to become the band that would rival guns ‘n roses. andy’s close circle of friends included alice in chains’ jerry cantrell and soundgarden’s chris cornell, as well as countless other seattle musicians. get it? andy wood. the song’s called “would?”
jerry cantrell took all that angst and anger and poured it into a perfect expression of rock and roll. the same can be said for a few soundgarden and mudhoney songs, but none measure up to “would?” we all have favorite songs, and usually we rotate them in and out as our musical tastes change. “would?” has been my favorite song for ten years, and if i can get just one of you to love this song, i’ll consider it all in a day’s work.
