i’m thinking of a minor celebrity. he appeared on “the dana carvey show.” later, he became a writer on “late night with conan o’brien,” and he has never served as an anchor on comedy central’s “the daily show.” who is this guy?

for extra credit, what is the only non-pepsi product featured in the title of “the dana carvey show”?

    but you see, eric and ballard, ask anyone who robert smigel is and they’ll say the cartoon guy from snl. the man has a minorly famous name.

    but louis ck also rocks.

    I would easily say - “Triumph: The Insult Comic Dog”, or “the dentist brother-in-law to Adam Sandler’s character in ‘Punch Drunk Love’”. Maybe I love Smigel too much, but support Louis CK as the underdog of fame.

    yeah, but to anyone who watches snl and doesn’t look at the writing credits, they say quite clearly every time it’s featured “a cartoon by robert smigel.”

    it’s the same way chevy chase got famous, just throw the name out there for everyone to hear.

    whether you watch the cartoon or not, if you watch snl, you at least stay for the opening credits, where the announcer clearly says “a cartoon by robert smigel.” you may have no clue who he is, but you know his name.

    by the way, the tiny SNL audience is still bigger than the audience for louis ck’s failed sitcom.

    “louis ck had a sitcom? oh yeah, i remember him from an HBO comedy half-hour from like fifteen years ago.”

    But i do know that the only non-Pepsi product featured on Dana Carvey’s show was Szechuan Dynasty.
