“cuban pete”: jim carey’s finest moment
written by geoffrey on 07/13/07

when the mask hit theaters, “cuban pete” was remixed and plastered all over the radio. it was what everyone at my school was talking about. people everywhere were singing this song and slightly messing up the words. in 1994, “cuban pete” was hysterical, and now i say it’s jim carey at his absolute best.

not as juvenile as talking through his butt cheeks, not as overreaching as trying to embody andy kaufman, bigger than just a great, solid performance, like in truman show and eternal sunshine — jim carey was wild, insane, limber, fun, exciting, and had everyone under his spell with this classy, cartoonish latin dance parody. in short, america was the woman police officer jim carey dances with in “cuban pete,” and we loved it! ay yi yi! best jim carey ever.

Cuban Pete is a karaoke favorite of my best friend Maria. It’s performance is always a guaranteed delight.
