the 5 absolute best things of the past twenty years, period.

a lot of amazing things have happened in the past twenty years. here are the top 5:
5. sega’s 32x.
although nary a good thing could be said about the x’s numbered 1 through 31, the 32x was perhaps the single greatest gaming console ever to be invented. imagine it: for the same cost of a new system, you could have an attachment for your old, crusty system! attachments revolutionized the vacuum cleaner, so why not video gaming? and with the 32x’s wealth of excellent games (there might be one or two more than the three shown in that ad), your gaming fun could only come to an end once your dying genesis finally gave up under the crushing weight of the awesome, almost alien-level advanced technology that was sitting on top of it.
4. star wars: the phantom menace
my yearbook that year was filled with nothing but jabba the hutts, boba fetts, and admiral ackbars, all in anticipation of this film. and oh, the payoff for my waiting! boy, with all those epic CG vistas and transitional wipes, there was barely any room left for a movie. but what time wasn’t spent in computer-created world-building was spent with detailed, psychologically riveting character building, because everybody knows you can’t make three movies with dull, uninteresting/annoying characters! george lucas is a genius!

julia stiles is ghostwriter’s answer to ryan stiles
| written by geoffrey on 07/31/07 | leave a comment |
julia stiles wore many hats on the pbs classic ghostwriter. well, actually, only two that we know of: elite computer hacker and improv comic. here she is performing a whose line style game on ghostwriter, as part of a class exercise. i’m gonna give julia 100 points for this round, cause she’ll eventually be in save the last dance.
but remember everyone, the points are meaningless. i repeat, the points are meaningless! they have no meaning whatsoever! none! nooooooooooooooooooooooo meaning! just to be clear.

new overtime video: delayed until tonight! (or tomorrow morning)
| written by asterios on 07/30/07 | leave a comment |
dear overtime comedy readers,
asterios here. my computer’s still busted, so no new video until later tonight when i can get to a decent mac. right now, i’m in an internet cafe in the worst part of hollywood, trying to ignore the people who are muttering to themselves (seriously, there is a guy dressed up like a pirate here shouting, “get out! he doesn’t belong there” into his cell phone.)
this is the second week in a row we had to push this deadline back, and we at overtime hate being biters. we’re not biters, we’re fighters. so i wanna apologize.
new video soon. soon! promise. and it’s about homeless teenagers, so you know it’ll be worth the wait.
love,
asterios

i can’t stop whistling the bubble man theme
| written by daroff on 07/27/07 | 1 comment |
thank you youtube user raspo86 for the best rendition on the net
the music from mega man 2 rocked by balls so hard i was sterile from 1994-1997. once that 8-bit sound got going, i was in it for the long haul. i was ready to punch through eight levels of robots, followed by dr. wily’s endless castle/laboratory full of even more robots.
no song got more adrenaline pumping than bubble man’s theme. moreover, it’s catchy as hell, and it has been stuck in my head for weeks. so, as a gift to you, after the jump, i give you the video game cover band the minibosses playing a ten-minute suite of the entire game of mega man 2.
