there are a few pivotal questions that need to be answered when you are a kid: what do you want to be when you grow up? what is your favorite color? what is your favorite animal? my answers were: ruler of the universe, purple, and… the lion. considering my early dreams of multi-world domination, it is probably no coincidence that the lion represents power, royalty, and sometimes jesus christ. thank goodness television gave me many reasons to celebrate my choice…

here are five of television’s greatest lions!

5) voltron

five robot lions were disbanded to different parts of the galaxy until they were needed again. they come together to form one giant robot piloted by teenagers. this equals total and utter radness. technically, since it is five lions, my list should be done…but what’s the fun in that?

4) braveheart, the care bear cousin

this one eats up the cuteness factor: this is a lion you want to hug and cuddle. but don’t let that fuzzy exterior fool you. this lion is a badass at heart.

3) lion-o from thundercats

you put a young lion in a suspension capsule while traveling to third earth and this is what you get: a macho, macho man… lion.

2) the thought lion from the jim henson hour

the thought lion was a white lion with seemingly magical powers who was introduced in “the true bride,” an episode of the storyteller. jim henson liked the realistic lion so much that it was featured as his ‘co-host’ in the jim henson hour, appearing in opening and closing scenes. why, oh why, couldn’t one of its powers be to bring back the dead? sigh.

1) aslan

this is the ultimate in lionocity. you can’t get any more regal than to be the animal embodiment of the lord and savior jesus christ.
