my perogative? more new jack swing! written by geoffrey on 03/16/07
you love classic bobby brown. everyone does - it’s a law. unfortunately, bobby has fucked up his life on multiple occasions… but why’d he have to take this great hip-hop sub-genre called “new jack swing” with him?
the beats are fun and fresh, the dancing is really solid, and the lyrics roll off the tongue. it pays homage to the old sounds, while moving it forward into a new decade i like to call the 90’s. you’ll nod your head and tap your toes, without feeling like you’re about to kill a rival gang member. is this to say gangsta rap is bad? no, of course not. it’s awesome. however, there should be a lighthearted alternative in the rap world.
i’m a fan of artists like mf doom and del the funkee homosapien, but i’m sure as hell not gonna dance to their music. i’ll try my best to rap along to their effortless flow of brilliant lyrics, but again, i can’t dance to it at a party. where did the “hop” go in hip-hop? everyone is hip, whether you’re a brainiac or a gangsta, but where are the party people who don’t wanna listen to club electronic and top 40 pop? where are they?
WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUUU?!?!?
