captain n: holy shit, i’m less disappointed than i thought i’d be!

wow. i bought the captain n dvd last weekend, and i’ve been watching it. my expectations were super low — watching the super mario bros. 3 cartoon was a total disaster. however, captain n: the game master, a cartoon i absolutely loved as a kid, despite the fact that it was an even bigger ad for nintendo than the wizard (a movie i love, by the way), is totally watchable today. is it a great saturday morning cartoon, like the tick or muppet babies? nope. but is it campy, enjoyable, and not a complete snooze-fest like smb3? HELL YES!! WOO!!!!

nintendo fans can breath a sigh of relief. though your nintendo cereal was stale and your luigi stuffed toy had a knife in it, captain n was totally adequate enough to be remembered fondly! watch parts two and three of “nightmare on mother brain’s street” after the jump.

I always had love for Capt’n N. Unlike most long-format video game advertisements, it seemed to have been put together by people who had some knowledge of the source material. A couple missteps do really stick out, though. Like, for one, why is Mother Brain a sassy black woman or possibly Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors? And what the fuck happened to Mega Man? Besides having apparently acquired the special powers of Esophageal Cancer Man and Twenty Cheeseburgers Man, I mean.

I do really like how Simon Belmont’s character is based off of Bruce Campbell, though.

i wish that the captain n mega man would have met the real cartoon mega man — and that the real mega man would have put him out of his misery.

simon belmont is my favorite character on the show. he’s got that great bad personality/good at what he does dichotomy that steve carrell has on the office.

that’s right. i compared the office to captain n. wanna fight about it?
