help me remember chocolate chip cookie dough sundaes!
written by geoffrey on 03/07/07

dear overtime readers,

i need your help! i can’t find any evidence online of a desert i used to love as a kid. when chocolate chip cookie dough was having its hay day in the mid-nineties, ben and jerry’s used to have a chocolate chip cookie dough sundae. it was amazing! but now i can’t find a shred of evidence online that it existed.

you started out with two scoops of cookie dough ice cream, then hot fudge sauce, followed by (this was the key) chocolate whipped cream, which has to be terrible for you, and then an actual hunk of cookie dough as the cherry on top. not only was it a sundae for the gods, but the fact that parents were terrified about possible salmonella poisoning kids could get from cookie dough made it all the sweeter.

if you can find any information on my favorite sundae, or you also remember the mouth-watering treat as well, please comment up some info. when i went to a ben and jerry’s recently and asked about it, the girl thought i was crazy. let’s prove to her that she’s crazy! …and a dumb bitch!

    My Dearest Geoffrey:

You are right. The Cookie Dough Sundae does in fact exist. As an employee of Ben & Jerrys for 7 years, I can assure you that this sundae is real and I have made it before. You are correct as to how it is made, however, the chocolate whipped cream may have been something the store you went to invented. The normal sundae is made with the normal, plain Ben & Jerrys whipped cream. The placement and size of the cookie dough is also kind of up for debate because again, it’s sort of the personal preference of the scooper. Some like to do the one big chunk, while I prefer to make a few smaller chunks strategically placed around the sundae.

As for the rude girl not knowing about the sundae, she was probably new and not all scoop shops make it. In my case, my scoop shop used to make cookies and brownies, but since we were so small, we decided to downsize and get rid of the baked goods oven - therefore, we don’t have cookie dough and do not make the sundaes anymore. I’ve noticed that a lot of the stores don’t have it on their menu, but if you look around a notice that they make cookies, then they can make your cookie dough sundae. If they try to give you trouble about it, tell them to ring it up as a Cookie Cookie Sundae or something of equal price.

If you have any more trouble getting this sundae, let me know. I have Jerry’s cell phone number.

I KNEW being 23 and working in an ice cream store would come in handy one day!! I AM AWESOME.

    Love,

    Mary Walsh

    Dear Awesome Mary:

Out of the park, homerun! Thank you! I’m so glad to know I’m not crazy, and you’ve got all the details to prove it.

Is there a secret Ben & Jerry’s press library I can raid to find a picture? That’d be a turbo coup, though your response is a major coup for sure.

You’re the greatest. Folks, go visit Mary’s funny site: myfakeleg.com.
