what a feeling! (an apple macintosh feeling) written by geoffrey on 03/05/07
this apple promotional video from 1984 is totally amazing, though the vhs quality totally sucks. it’s a sound-alike of the song “what a feeling” by irene cara, called “we are apple.” i’m gonna scour youtube for their other promos early 80s promos, like “i’m so excited (about graphical operating systems),” “rio (is a place to buy apple computers)” and “footloose (the apple computer song).”

I love that, as mentioned, it really is a sound-alike of “What a Feeling.” To the point of plagiarism (if I remember right, a sequence of seven identical notes is enough to get sued over). Whatever happened to videos like this, where people don’t move, they just herky-jerky around via blurred stills played like a flip book? Ingenious. Also, mystical orange blinds in dark rooms was a surefire 80s image guaranteed to make people feel nostalgic in 15 or so years.

Well. I really did like. Its nice to be reminded of a time when optimism wasn’t so self conscious.

Also, fast forward fifteen or so years. More awkwardness from Apple.

well, if there’s any company out there who loves to mess with music copyrights, it’s apple. after the beatles’ “apple corps” lawsuit, they made a special sound blip for them called “sosumi” or “so sue me.” now they rule the music industry with an iron fist, so go figure.
i agree - optimism rules. and i definitely had that exact ipod. 1,000 songs. what were we thinking?
