today’s special taught me something important!
written by geoffrey on 02/28/07

i grew up on sesame street, but there were plenty of shows trying to steal a piece of sesame’s iron-fisted stranglehold on america’s youth. in my case, one of them did.

though to this day i love grover far more than the sharon, lois, bram, and that goddamn elephant all put together, sam crenshaw, the puppet night watchman from today’s special, holds a special place in my heart. why? because that guy inspired my first sentence. from early on in my life, i was able to spout out random words, but according to my mom, the very first complete sentence i said aloud was, “sam crenshaw has a big computer.” good observation, me! of course, what i failed to realize is that the size of a computer is disproportional to its power, as the age of the microprocessor would prove, but i was probably 1-2 years old, and hindsight is 20/20.

so, while the question of whether snuffleupagus was real or not preoccupied most of my attention as a kid, i have to thank today’s special for being an also-ran which made an impact on me.

his was the greatest kids television show in the history of all kids television period. Throughout my younger years I too use to pretend that I was a manikin who could turn from human to plastic on a dime. My earliest memories of television are this show. Great find!

because that mouse guy spilled a cup of cocoa on a computer keyboard, i have become paranoid of having food or drink near a computer. if kids tv shows are supposed to teach life-long lessons, this show definitely did something right.

I cold not remember the name of this T.V. show for years!! I would always have these odd flashbacks of a mouse and a manakin, but I could never place it.. I loved pretending that I could turn into plastic, but I never did like the manakins in the stores, after that show, they gave me the creeps, lol, thanks!
