crazytown’s “butterfly” - radioactive waste of the 90’s written by geoffrey on 02/27/07
overtime comedy is all about the 80’s & 90’s, so you might think it’s weird to feature this horrible music video from 2001. well, you’re weird.
perhaps more to the point, however, the video for crazytown’s one hit represents everything awful about the 90’s, especially 90’s music, so think of it as the disgusting waste product from the era. awfulness includes:
- painfully unhip use of irony - the “DARE” shirt
- aggressive sleaziness
- rap-rock music
- guys with partially-dyed blonde hair
- a black drummer, almost certainly “cast” to give the false impression of multiculturalism
- slight and sudden head movements, meant to indicate that you’re tough
- dj scratch noises in a song where there’s no dj in the band
- ripping off the red hot chili peppers
i can only hope that all the unsold copies of their album aren’t buried in the desert, causing children of a small arizona town to be born with six eyes and turtle hands. to these aspects of the 90’s, i say good riddance.
