one day you’re lonely and then…you get new shoes! written by jenni on 02/20/07
girls love shoes right? well, i loved a pair of shoes.
shortly after the premiere of punky brewster in 1984 (the orginal live-action show…not that lame animated crap), payless shoe source released punky brewster-themed kids shoes. since payless shoe source was the only place my mom took me for all my shoe needs and i worshipped punky brewster like a god, this worked out quite nicely for me.
i went through five pairs of punky brewster shoes as a kid. this may seem less impressive when you realize that i needed a new pair almost monthly, because of the alarmingly fast rate my feet grew in the 80s. but still, that’s almost half a year wearing the exact same style shoe.
and what style they had! they were rainbow colored, double-velcro (with one velcro strip being red and the other yellow), and had soleil moom frye’s face emblasioned across one side and brandon the dog on the other.
honestly, how was i not the fashion icon of hickman elementary school? maybe the world is blind…or just a little unkind.
