chuck e. cheese’s: where a kid can rip off heads
written by jenni on 02/28/07 leave a comment

video: chuck e. cheese corporate training video. it’s even funnier than you’d imagine.

from the ages of nine to twelve, i spent my birthdays at chuck e. cheese’s. i almost missed my twelth birthday because i got the chicken pox from my sister and we weren’t sure i’d be well enough to attend. but i was feelin’ good when the day rolled around and the few friends i wanted to invite (i had a five-person cap on chuck e. cheese birthday parties…my parents were only willing to spend so much on tokens and pizza) had all gone through the pox already, so my parents decided it would be okay.

i don’t know if it was because i’d been cooped up so long and this excitement was too much for me or what, but when chuck e. cheese came out to wish me a happy birthday and my friends encircled him for a hug, i ended up reaching up and ripping his head off. now, i was at an age where i actually still believed chuck was “real”, so that makes this act all the more shocking. needless to say, the party was over.

i grew up on sesame street, but there were plenty of shows trying to steal a piece of sesame’s iron-fisted stranglehold on america’s youth. in my case, one of them did.

crazytown’s “butterfly” - radioactive waste of the 90’s
written by geoffrey on 02/27/07 leave a comment

overtime comedy is all about the 80’s & 90’s, so you might think it’s weird to feature this horrible music video from 2001. well, you’re weird.

perhaps more to the point, however, the video for crazytown’s one hit represents everything awful about the 90’s, especially 90’s music, so think of it as the disgusting waste product from the era. awfulness includes:

they say there is no chin behind chuck norris’ beard, there is only another fist. but what about abraham lincoln’s beard?

i was wondering to myself the other night, as i often wonder to myself. i wondered, “self, if chuck norris and abraham lincoln appeared on wwe’s smackdown, who would win?” look, i’ve read the chuck norris fact sheet, i know that when the boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for chuck norris. i know that chuck norris is the reason waldo is hiding. and i know that chuck norris’ hand is the only hand that can beat a royal flush.

but i also know that abraham lincoln’s rap sheet is impressive as well. did you know that when john wilkes booth shot him in the head, lincoln bled freedom? it’s true.

the undertaker: wrestling’s beloved evil lazarus

video: the undertaker vs. papa shango

in the late 80’s and early 90’s, professional wrestling was real. Not just to me, a child who was convinced that playing Monopoly involved physically constructing houses and hotels in one’s neighborhood, but to a large number of (ostensible) adults. it was called “professional” for a reason; those guys in the headgear at the olympics were basically just fooling around, hoping that they would someday get called up to the big leagues and compete against real athletes like jake the snake roberts, kamala, the ugandan giant and the one man gang.

what do you mean gerald ford died?
written by rob on 02/26/07 leave a comment

video: mr. belevedere says goodbye. people sure did place themselves conveniently in straight lines back in the 80’s.

gerald ford dead? when did this happen? why wasn’t this parodied on a fake news program or the cover story for hilarious websites? it seems like doonesbury would have brought it up or it would have been referenced on jibjab.com. was letterman on hiatus that week? hell my neighbor is jimmy carter and he didn’t mention a thing.
