the tomorrow people: did nickelodeon really need a hard sci-fi series?
written by asterios on 01/15/07

when i think of nickeloden and sci-fi i think of “space cases” or “the secret world of alex mack” - simple premise, school’s somehow involved, they star a cute girl next door type you can masturbate to (thanks, alex mack!).

but the tomorrow people was about wierd british teleporters who, if they made a mistake, were teleported into solid rock. the second arc involved “dr. culex”, a woman who’d sting you to death with mosquitos, and then clone you somehow. or something. i don’t know, i was 9.

and an arced series for a 9 year old is a bad idea, because if you miss one episode, you’re basically fucked. and I’d miss episodes all the time - my 9 year old schedule wasn’t under my control. the TV could be taken away from me at any moment for punching my brothers, or peeing on the couch instead of in the toilet (c’mon mom, you can’t argue that peeing on the couch isn’t easier).

all of a sudden, one of the tomorrow people is in a coma. and i’ve missed it! thanks, nickelodeon!

I was 11 and it all made perfect sense to me. And Christian Tessier (Megabyte) was VERY masturbate-to-able in my humble opinion.

    You want complicated?

Forever Tomorrow is an original, crossover fan fiction universe featuring Highlander: The Series, and The Tomorrow People (New Series).

    You’re welcome.

“and an arced series for a 9 year old is a bad idea, because if you miss one episode, you’re basically fucked.”

It was a remake of a british show back in the 70’s like Doctor Who. The Brits didn’t have a problem with it, of course they schedule things better.

And the original creator had a hand in the new series, so it didn’t get altered like Dr. Who.

    omega II,

still, not a great fit for nickelodeon. the secret world of alex mack - that show had more resolutions than the geneva convention!

Seriously, I don’t remember how old I was when that came out, only that it was odder than the later Shelby Woo, not very kid-friendly, and somehow the characters kept ending up in the ocean.

What the hell was the lesson in that?
