data sings! the story of brent spiner’s impossible to find jazz album written by asterios on 01/04/07
most smart people will tell you that everything was better back in 1994. you had that hilarious SNL sketch where clinton ate everybody’s food at the mcdonalds, jurassic park, and my spec script that combined those two things. i called it, “jurassic clinton” - it ws about a dinosaur with a “healthy” appetite - for being overweight like our forty second president!

but enough intro: the single best thing to come out of 1994 was brent spiner’s album, “ol’ yellow eyes is back.” for those idiots out there that don’t know the names of the actors on star trek the next generation, brent spiner played data (you idiot), the loveable android who longed to be more human. turns out the actor that played him longed for the unachievable as well - a career singing jazz standards!
here it is on ebay, for one hundred and forty six dollars!
the album’s currently impossible to find, both in physical and digital form. it’s not on youtube, it’s not on limewire, and i don’t have a hundred and forty six dollars. which is a shame, because A) the general consensus is spiner sings pretty damn well and B) spiner’s joined on one track by backup group “the sunspots”, made up of: johnathan frakes, levar burton, michael dorn and…the big one…patrick stewart.
so if you’re out there at a garage sale or goodwill, and you see this album for sale…casually buy it. then, the moment you own it, yell, “AHAHAHAHAH! YOU IDIOT! THIS IS WORTH HUNDRED OF DOLLARS!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!” trust me, it’ll make you feel better about your loveless relationship built on routine.

Did a bit of research, and found the following. First of all, you’re displaying the 1991 original version, in which Spiner’s eyes are gray’d out. The company that issued it, Bay Cities, Inc. went bankrupt, as their business model was based on issuing soundtracks for such movies as The People Under The Stairs, Delta Force II, and various works of 20th Century American classical music. The ‘94 re-issue features the same cover, except Spiner’s eyes are yellowed out, and was published by a company called Infinite Visions. Furthermore, I’m trying to social-engineer a six-degrees-of-separation into Princeton, which happens to have a copy; otherwise, your best bet is California State University at Fresno - they also have a copy. Also, Amazon has a copy for the steal price of eighty-two bucks. And, in addition, if you find that this does not quench your Spiner thirst, there’s a performance of Steven Sondheim’s “Sunday In The Park With George” from the early eighties which features a young Brent singing about various Sondheimian things, which, given Sondheim, no doubt concerns double entendres which may be either oral sex or cannibalism.

Wow! Dude, thanks so much for the research! You’ve got to follow up with us as you find out more - our readers (and us) are way interested in your findings. This CD seems as valuable as the artifacts of Kivas Fajo! (Also: i’m a dork.)
Take care,
Asterios

Wow, I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t find it for sale. I FINALLY found my own disc (the Infinite Visions version) buried in a fogotten box of CD’s. Will protect it with my life, LOL! Thanks for the research and info.
