video: a clip from tekwar, dubbed in french. but even if it were in english you’d have no clue what was happening.
tekwar, the william shatner-run sci-fi cop drama about a futuristic drug that gets you put in cyber-jail, came on the scene right around the time i began to form opinions about television. just a scant few months before, my preteen mind watch whatever you put in front of it - M*A*S*H (a show i didn’t understand), law & order (a show i didn’t understand), 3-2-1 contact (a show that scared me)…
so the fact that tekwar was on the air, and had the word “tek” in it, was enough to make me watch the first six or so episodes. but something happened around episode four that had never happened before: i began to…hate…tekwar.
“what the fuck is this show about? they put the chip in their head, then they live out their fantasies, but they’re not allowed to? and shatner runs an evil corporation, but he’s a good guy as well, or something?”
“that little girl’s really a walking bomb? why aren’t these guns killing anything?”
so, for the first time ever, i changed the channel. i said, “fuck this”, and put on a much better show… gene roddenberry’s earth: final conflict!
nah, just kidding. even a kid can tell that show was for assholes!
