will smith vs. jessie spano: when sitcom characters go all actorly written by daroff on 10/25/06
fresh prince: the best will smith starts around 4:30
saved by the bell: the best jessie starts around 2:30. also, check out jessie’s awesome adam west batman poster.
those crafty sitcoms! sometimes they slide a little drama or a little message into an episode. very crafty, guys!
these heavier episodes are what sitcom actor dreams are made of. the guy who had to wear a dress to pay for a car or something, or the girl who wore a long skirt to cheerleading practice, finally get the chance to show off their chops — show the world what their talent is made of.
some use these opportunities to open the door to a multi-million dollar movie/tv/music career, and others squander them completely. i won’t say which is which, but i’ll say one thing: when you’re in a scene with ben vereen or mark-paul gosselaar, the bar is raised pretty darned high.
