gameboy ending #1: super mario land’s tearjerker finale written by geoffrey on 10/16/06
the ending sequence begins at 2:40.
relax your strained eyes and cramped fingers — i’m gonna blog all this week about gameboy endings, so you don’t have to sit in your dark bedroom after “lights out,” desperately trying to finish revenge of the gator pinball, wishing you had enough allowance money to buy that stupid, tiny little gameboy lamp. damn you, lamp!
everyone’s first gameboy game was tetris, but while your dad also liked tetris (and stole the gameboy from me for hours — thanks dad!), your dad had no desire to play super mario land. what a dork! not only did he miss out on microscopic mario’s first pocket adventure, but he missed a classic gameboy ending.
yes, mario land’s ending is similar to the original mario brothers “your princess is in another blah blah” ending. it’s even teased out in a similar, albeit superior way. if toad had turned into monsters at the end of each level in mario brothers, it would have blown my mind. However, there are key differences between the final endings. For one… awesome fucking music accompanied by a rocketship ride!!! the ending music to mario land is painfully underrated, compared with the main theme that’s everybody’s ringtone / favorite dance, and just about every other mario theme. i would play the game just to leave the end theme going for hours. if this music doesn’t get you out of your seat, or bring a tear to your eye, you’re probably already dead inside.
plus, did i mention that mario and daisy get in a rocketship for some reason? oh, i did? good.

hah! I found your post here while looking for the end music to this game. This end music was so powerful the first time I heard it that I too left my gameboy on for the next hour - I knew I wasn’t likely to play the game through and hear it again!!
Thanks for making this available, I was able to play it for my best friend and she agreed that it was awesome :)

For some reason the gameboy Mario universe games have exceptional credit music. Ive always loved Mario Land’s but another great on is Wario Land 2’s. It seems to have the same kind of emotional end-of-the-journey feel to it. Give it a listen.

Ha! I’m so happy to have stumble across this. I have always raved about this credit song but have never been able to find an audio clip and my gameboy has long since bit the dust so my friends have no clue what I’m talking about. Thanks for the good memories!
