video: enjoy the best episode of rocko’s modern life, “wacky delli”
11 year old me had the following opinion: ren and stimpy was way too wierd, and doug was way too boring. rocko’s modern life, however, was perfect.
do i still hold said opinion? yes. yeah, i get that a lot of the stuff on ren and stimpy was pretty brilliant…the anti-consumerism messages of “log”, insanely detailed insert shots & that horse who says, “no sir, i don’t like it!” were all pretty awesome. here’s what that series wasn’t, though: consistantly entertaining. it wasn’t even “sometimes” entertaining, a ton of the episodes were just lame, like anything to do with nipples or boogers.
do i even need to get into doug? yeah, we get it, you like patty mayonaise. if i wanted to watch the adventures of a flustered wimp i’d videotape myself being beaten up by bullies. doug’s a non-starter.
rocko’s modern life, however, had it all: well natured wallaby, insane cow, jagoff neighbors with big heads (named “the bigheads”) &woody allen turtle running a comic book store.sold!
now watch the above episode, “wacky delly”, and enjoy life again.

The thing that irked me about Doug is that the creators intended for him to be “relatable” an everyman. I think I even remember a commercial touting him as being “just like you”. No fucking way Nickelodeon. I hope to God he’s not “just like me”. I woldn’t fuck up my own life that bad.
