freakazoid: even kids knew this thing would get cancelled written by asterios on 09/12/06
i think the reason i loved freakazoid as a kid was that it made me feel smarter than my classmates. while they were off doing well in school, making friends or having sex, i was watching a show that referenced the oddest, coolest things. and now i write for a blog! who’s the loser now, shannon skrypecki?
in the above clip alone, the following things are referenced (and remember - this is a kids show airing saturday mornings aimed at 5-11 year olds):
- the graduate
- dr. strangelove
- quantum leap
- jerry lewis and his asshole real life rersona
- pearl harbor
- QVC
- sharon stone
- rush limbaugh
- euro disney
- cold fusion
- chevy chase
now that’s kids entertainment! all the things kids want to see - parodies of old movies, political satire & a savage attack on jerry lewis. is it any wonder the show lasted three thousand episodes, and is the most successful television show of all time?
yes, it is, because that was a lie. the show was cancelled after two seasons. still, though, the show’s awesome and if you disagree, i’ll meet you in the parking lot.
