eek! the cat that’s not garfield!

recently, in the “funny pages,” jon arbuckle has been shacking up with liz the vet. if you didn’t know that already, and you’re a regular reader of this blog, then your mind has just been blown.

now that the intense shock has worn off, let me just say that garfield’s cynicism will ultimately taper off or become meaningless if jon and liz stay a couple (exhibit a). jon will be so beside himself with happiness that garfield’s barbs will become meaningless. could a major personality overhaul be in store for that fat obnoxious piece of crap? no, it’s not in his nature to change. but we, the american public, do.

much like the recent sonic the hedgehog boom, in the wake of the mario nostalgia wave, perhaps a revival of eek! the cat is in order. like garfield, eek! would ruin your life, but never consciously so. both eek! and garfield are obnoxious, but you can’t blame eek! eek! is just being eek! garfield could be better, but he chooses not to be — hence my calling him a “piece of crap” earlier in the blog. today’s most successful cartoon (ratings-wise) is spongebob, who’s eek!’s underwater equivalent. i just think eek! deserves a little more credit. it was a very funny show, except for him saying “kumbaya” all the time. damn it, eek! that never worked, and deep down, you knew it. that was your one selfish act.
