crossover: marvel vs. capcom arcade game written by geoffrey on 08/30/06
in 1998, the world was gonna end in two years. there was no more time to speculate — this was a time for action. if something was gonna happen, it was gonna happen now. and it did. one day, in the arcade of my local putt-putt, my mind was officially blown: capcom vs. marvel. what? street fighter characters — and fucking mega man — would fight against, and alongside, the x-men, captain america — and fucking spider-man. *bloosh!* that’s the sound of my mind being blown.
the tragedy, though, is that i absolutely love this game, but i suck so hard at it. i’m terrible. by the end of a game, i’m a sad sack of a button masher, desperately switching between guile and wolverine, wondering what happened to me… and by extension, to my life in general. still, how can you beat two universes filled with awesome characters duking it out? forget that lame popularity contest, dc vs. marvel. the only thing marvel should be fighting is the dark, awesome powers of m. bison. PSYCHO CRUSHER!

Growing up I had a friend named Jon Michael, who was hard core into every sort of comic book, horror story, and video game. The highlight of our long friendship was one afternoon I watched him take Cyclops and Ryu all the way to the end of that game.
Mind blowing.
The second to last level, they fight Apocalypse. This fight is everything you imagined it would be, and more. Apocalypse takes up half the screen. He’s everywhere, he’s virtually indestructable, and he has every Apocalypse power all at once.
Good thing Jon Michael had plenty of quarters, so he could Continue many, many times.
When Apocalypse was finally defeated, the makers of this game threw in a twist no one could have seen coming. Together, these two men had fought every imaginable combination of Marvel and Capcom characters, then defeated the mightiest mutant of all. What was left?
Ryu vs. Cyclops
Super Street Fighting Kung Fu vs. Laser Eyes
Friend vs. Friend
I don’t remember who won, but rest assured, it was epic.
