when alien vs. predator was a good idea

oh man! as if “predator 2″ wasn’t already a great movie, with the predator tearing through a futuristic los angeles and all, they had to go and put this scene in. danny glover finds the predator’s trophy room, filled with the skulls of his many conquests. glover’s too busy freaking out about the human skull to realize that on the shelf is a skull of the alien from “aliens”!

in this one brief moment, alien vs. predator was born in the minds of every kid in america. and if this could happen, who knew what other movie fights were possible? robocop vs. terminator? jurassic park vs. angels in the outfield? the bottomline was that in my life, movies were going to break the rules and start fighting. it told me that anything was possible in the world.

after that scene, my friends and i began counting down for the fight. and it was going to happen real soon. “it has to happen like next year,” we told ourselves, “why else would they show that scene? surely, not to tease us.”

as the years went by, my anticipation just got more and more frenzied. then in 2004, i finally got my dream fight when “avp: alien vs. predator” came out!

and it sucked. wow, that was a terrible movie.
