i love norm macdonald, but i have no idea how this video happened. my hope is that norm came into a writers meeting and was like, “Meah, we got to…do a thing with…thepokeymon in it…like…gottacatchthemall…”

when i was a kid, i worked for the national scrabble association in greenport, new york - getting lunch orders, doing database stuff, answering scrabble questions over the telephone. one of my jobs was finding video clips of newsworthy people mentioning scrabble, and my biggest “catch” (get it? the theme?) was finding Norm Macdonald doing a two minute scrabble routine on the letterman show the night after he was fired from SNL.

i’ll see if i can find the routine, but it focused on norm playing scrabble with a crazy old-sea-dog hotel owner, and how the owner would simply make up words, and how norm was too scared for his life to correct him.
