TGIF - larry wants his fucking money

larry from perfect strangers might just have a tiny gambling problem. i can tell because he’s gone batshit crazy all of a sudden. good thing balki is there to cowardly run from him and explain to larry the buddhist philosophy of “the middle way.” this show is very deep.

then again, there’s also a gag where the two of them vibrate on a coin-operated bed. so maybe it’s not so deep.

ironywatch: “snakes on a plane” hype
written by geoffrey on 05/15/08 2 comments

i’m always on the look out for new things to appreciate ironically. this is ironywatch.

who could forget snakes on a plane? well, not the movie. people didn’t see the movie — but man, the media frenzy surrounding it was awesome.

“this is gonna be the movie the internet created!” clearly, by parodying and making fun of snakes on a plane endlessly, the internet audience was saying, “we’re legitimately interested in this movie,” and not “this movie looks fucking retarded!”

while watching or owning snakes on a plane the film isn’t ironic (who cares?), the following things are highly ironic activities:

  • wearing a snakes on a plane shirt
  • visiting snakes on a blog daily
  • driving in your car and blasting the snakes on a plane soundtrack everywhere you go
  • shouting “i have had it with these motherfucking snakes…” then waiting for other people to finish the sentence, but nobody does
  • throwing a snakes on a plane party, which is in no way themed around snakes on a plane

oh, i’m ready for it. come on bring it! snakes on a plane hype, you’ve been ironywatched.

harrison ford was once a nazi
written by geoffrey on 05/14/08 leave a comment

indiana jones kicks many a nazi ass, which is ironic, since harrison ford’s first part in feature films is as a nazi. check him out in the above clip, looking like a piece of nazi youth furniture in the great escape.

his first speaking role was in a film called dead heat on a merry-go-round (1966 - above), in which harrison plays a bellhop and is referred to as “boy.” if he called indiana jones “boy,” that’d equal a whip to the face, but these were humble beginnings for mr. ford. he was just “boy” back then, and was paid $125 for the role.

everybody polkamon!

i’m not a big fan of pokemon, but weird al’s take on the japanese phenomenon is one of his tightest polkas ever. hey, they might be giants did a fantastic song for the mighty morphin power rangers movie, so weird al is allowed to cash in once and awhile.

nintendo revisited: super mario brothers
written by daroff on 05/13/08 2 comments

the designer of this game was brilliant, and this new yorky guy playing is hilarious

this is it, folks. this will be my last nintendo revisited. i’ve said it many times, but growing up, i didn’t have many nintendo games. freshman year of college, i played a bit on my roommate’s emulator (thank you, lenny). junior and senior year, i played on my friend dana’s nintendo. she had a couple good games, but i was too busy to get into any of them. life has a way of cutting into your nintendo time. if you want to ship me your favorite nintendo games to play and write about, i will never say no to free things. i also accept gifts of cash.

i spend a lot of time talking about, writing about, reading about, watching videos about super mario brothers , but there really is nothing like going back and playing it. it’s not as complicated as its successors, but none of those games live up to the elegance of the original. i actually beat it on the first try. i haven’t beaten this game in 10 years, and it feels really freakin good.
